BUSHIDŌ: A Quiet Current at the Heart of Japanese Culture
Shibunkaku is pleased to present BUSHIDŌ: A Quiet Current at the Heart of Japanese Culture at TEFAF Maastricht 2026.
Rather than portraying samurai as historical spectacle, this presentation highlights the quiet values—righteousness, propriety, benevolence, sincerity, and balance—that have shaped Japanese aesthetics for centuries. These values form a continuous, steady undercurrent in Japanese culture, carried across generations in both daily conduct and artistic expression.
Through works from different periods, we invite viewers to encounter the attentiveness, respect, and quiet composure that continue to define Japanese culture. It is our hope that this enduring spirit can be felt through the diverse expressions assembled here.
