Shibunkaku participates in Frieze Masters 2021

With a selection of avant-garde calligraphy and postwar painting and ceramics that comprises both Japanese and Western artists, this presentation celebrates the mutual cross-cultural influences that swept through postwar art and led to substantial exchange between East and West in the world of art.

Exhibited artists include Morita Shiryū and Inoue Yūichi from the field of avant-garde calligraphy, Shinoda Tōkō and Miyawaki Aiko as two of the most prominent Japanese female artists of their era, the ceramists Yagi Kazuo, Suzuki Osamu and Miyanaga Rikichi, and works from leading artists of the 1960s such as Lucio Fontana, Joan Miró, Robert Motherwell, and Georges Mathieu.

As a special highlight we show Untitled by Louise Bourgeois, the French-American artist whose career explored childhood trauma, hidden emotions and inner conflict.

We are excited to welcome you to Shibunkaku at Frieze Masters 2021.

A selection of exhibited works will also appear on Frieze Viewing Room.
