Profile

Takeuchi Seihō is undoubtedly one of the most influential masters of the modern nihonga, the Japanese-style painting. Having inherited the Kyoto art tradition of shasei (sketching from nature), Seihō established his artistic style by integrating the Western radical ‘observation-from-life’ approach into the traditional Japanese painting methods. Seihō is also significant in cultivating a great number of nihonga artists of the younger generation.
